Portugal’s leg was an adventure of bringing Happy Rasmus from Galicia, Vigo to Portugal, Faro with Anton and Diana. It was a part driven by Nortada (summer wind in Portugal) with strong winds, high waves, fogs and a broken engine (again, because of bacteria in diesel tank), but still with lots of amazing moments, beautiful anchorages, dolphins, open people and magic night sailing with sparkling plankton.
A farewell to Galicia
Galician fireworks as a farewell to Happy Rasmus leaving her after a long amazing time spent here 🙂 That is my first time to see fireworks from the water. #Baiona
Arriving to Portugal
Movie directed and produced by Anton:
Arriving to Lisbon:
Some waves on te way to Sines
Rounding Cape St. Vincent
Cape St. Vincent is known for high waves and not very easy navigation. Waterpilot told us to turn around it keeping at least 2 nautical miles from the coast. I was totally not prepared to stuck right there with an engine which didn’t start in a fog and without a wind!!! That was among the scariest moments in my whole sailing life. Luckily the wind started to blow and we were able to go further and to leave the fog area. When we came to the anchorage the wind increased up to 25+knots and we had to ask to help us a local service to get us to the anchorage to make it safely.
Amazing Algarve
Though we had a broken engine and despite Algarve is really crowded in August, it was so much pleasure to spend this time on hidden beaches among rocks and beautiful anchorages in Alvor and Faro. But I would definitely prefer to come back here in some less popular season.
Alvor and Faro Anchorages
Alvor is one of the best anchorages on my way. Despite tricky entrance you get a nice place near a beautiful small town with a good anchor holding. From here you can explore Algarve coast.
